Valentine's Day Makeup Look

Play it safe on Valentine's Day and opt for minimal makeup because the truth is, guys like girls with as little makeup as possible! (most guys at least!) Since the name of the game is "Who me? I'm not wearing makeup", opt  for subtle, earthy tones to enhance your natural beauty! ;) If you like the bold, sexy, sultry look, you can definitely go in for a bright red lipstick, but make sure it's matte, long-wearing and transfer-free! ^_^ In this video, I also show you a few essentials to keep in your clutch when you're heading out for a date! :)

Hope you guys enjoy it! Please subscribe to my youtube channel for more fun videos!

My cinnamon highlights | Hair

For 2 years now,  I've resisted the urge to highlight my hair, reminding myself that colouring can lead to more hair damage on my dry hair. I spend a lot of time with my Hairstylist Dolma who is an expert with haircuts, styling and colouring! Right before we left to Goa for a destination wedding, she got herself a cute bob cut with gorgeous mahogany streaks that sat so beautifully on her silky smooth hair! I was surprised at how her new look chopped off not only her hair, but also took away 10 years, making her look much younger!!

So on our flight journey, this was the topic of discussion.

I  have major issues with my dry, frizzy hair which can be very unmanageable at times! I've always wanted to add streaks to my hair, without drying it out further and making it look frizzier! Since I wanted a very subtle look, with a hint of colour, Dolma suggested to go for deep reds, mahogany, and browns instead of the lighter golds and browns. Lighter hues draw more attention to frizzy hair so stay away from them unless your hair is healthy and shiny! Plus, I always wanted a reddish brown since it looks amazing on Indian complexion... The moment Dolma suggested I go for a shade called "Cinnamon", my face lit up!! I love cinnamon everything- mixing it in my oats, sprinkling it on top f my coffee, baking cinnamon truffles and even applying it on my face as a mask!

Even better, Dolma advised me to go for 2 shades - cinnamon and hazelnut.. now how could I say no to that!!??? So she went ahead and alternated between these two beautiful shades to cut the monotony of one colour!

Dolma gave me a voluminous blow dry after, which lasted me for 2 days! Yes, my weekend was sorted.

To protect my colored hair, I bought the Wella Professionals shampoo and conditioner (for coloured hair) since it works amazing to keep your hair healthy and shiny! Oh and after your first hair wash, the colour will stand out even more! :)

I absolutely love the haircut and streaks she gave me, I just can't get enough of them!! ^_^

Guess what... For those of you who want to get a haircut or colour from Dolma, she is offering a 20% discount on salon services to all Mesmereyes Makeup followers!! :D Yaaay! Her salon is in Luz Church Road (Mylapore) and her number is +919884759596.

Hope you guys like the highlights as much as I do! :P Gosh, it's amazing how a new hairdo can make you feel so fabulous!! ;)

Have a beautiful day!

I've got Eyelash Extensions!

What do Kim Kardashian, Jennifer Lopez and I have in common? EYELASH EXTENSIONS!! :)

I was recently invited by NOVALASH in Delhi to try on a full set of temporary eyelash extensions... I couldn't resist since I LOVE long, voluminous lashes! As of now, they cost Rs.4,500 for a set of lashes and they last around 5 weeks which is pretty cool, ideal for bride-to-be's!

Imagine waking up every morning with gorgeous lashes without  having to apply any mascara!! ^_^

You can watch the video below to find out more about the lashes and my experience with synthetic eyelash extensions! :)

My Dove Ad | Dove Face Wash | #ReasonsToSmile

What makes me smile? ICE CREEAAAAM!! ^_^ That's the first thing that came to my mind when Dove India contacted me! :D  Infact, when we were shooting for that particular shot, the director paused, made me re-take the shot and said "Akriti, please take a smaller bite!" Haha! :P

So I arrived in Mumbai a few days earlier for wardrobe trials as we had to finalize a look that was very "me". It was a pleasure to work with Tasneem, the stylist for the shoot.. She created a simple yet chic look which I was extremely comfortable in- beige denims and a crisp white top from Zara! :) I love pearls so we went for classy pearl earrings and a simple pearl necklace from Accessorize (my fav!)

Keeping myself hydrated and eating biryani at 1am! Haha :D

I was blown away when I reached the sets.. It was AMAZING!! They pay attention to detail, and I mean minute details like the colour of a book kept on the side of a table or the position of a flower which was completely out of focus but still shows in the frame or even a scratch on the table which could hardly be seen..

Lights. Camera. Action

I wish I could take this home!

How pretty is that??
Overall, I had a blast shooting for the Dove face wash ad- I felt like a queen sitting on a throne in my vanity! Haha... to be very honest, I felt bad and guilty at the same time when I was given so much attention!! :P

I hope you guys enjoy watching the ad! Do check out the face washes, they come in 3 variations- Deep Pore, Beauty Moisture, Go Fresh.. Choose the one that suits your skin type: Normal/Dry/Oily. You need less than a pea-sized amount of the face wash since a little goes a long way! These face washes form a velvety lather that removes dirt and grime from your face, you'll feel clean and refreshed after! :)

I would love to know what puts a smile on your face! Comment below and tell me, what are YOUR #ReasonsToSmile! :)

Keep smiling! :D

Lots of love and hugs,
Akriti

The best way to exfoliate your body!

I'm so in love with these exfoliating gloves from The Body Shop!! Been using them for over 2 years now, wish I bought them earlier! Ohh well, it's never too late! :D They are available in plenty of colors... I wanted PINK (as usual) but it was sold out so i picked up yellow!

How to use them: Take 3-4 drops of shower gel and scrub your entire body in circular motions. It gets rid of dead skin cells, dirt, impurities etc. and makes your skin super soft!  If you have sensitive skin, please be gentle because this is pretty rough.. I recommend you use thee beauties 3-4 times a week because over exfoliation isn't good for you skin!! Oh and plsss don't use it for your face, it's wayyy too harsh!

Upon regular use, it keeps your skin healthy, tone and firm! Showering will not be the same without them, guaranteed!!

After your shower, apply a body lotion to soothe and nourish your skin! :)

Price: Rs.395/-
Exfoliating Gloves- The Body Shop

Happy Showering gorgeous people!!! ^_^

No eyeshadow makeup... Minimum effort, maximum impact!

It's December already!! Ahhh can't believe this year is coming to an end!! :O As clitchéd as it sounds, this year has flown by too quickly!!

Anyway, last night when I went out with my friends, I decided to live up to this festive season by wearing a bronze sequined top.. I actually bought it 4 years ago while I was on holiday in London. It's amazing how it doesn't look that old, thats the beauty of sequins!! :D

Top: Miss Selfridge
        Black waxed jeans: Zara
   Watch: Michael Kors

When it came to my makeup, I decided to go for "minimum effort, maximum impact" haha.. I had a looooong day yesterday and I couldn't be bothered to dress up! Plus, less is MORE sometimes!

I went for the no eyeshadow look! I literally used a black kohl pencil and a bright red lipstick!!
Okay, you can stop there if you want it to stay for one hour, but for your makeup to last all day it's really important to layer it up! So On top of the black kohl, I used black eyeshadow to set it in place with a pencil brush from mac called #219.

Coral Red- Oriflame, M.A.C Smolder

Let me make this simpler:

1. Draw a line on top of your eyes and below with a black kohl pencil. I used M.A.C Smolder as it's jet black and smudges alot!! Now you must be wondering why I would like a pencil that smudges..? For this look, I've just smoked out my eyeliner and smudged it with a smudge brush so it's easier to use this pencil instead of one that is stubborn and smudge proof.

2. Smudge this with a smudge brush- M.A.C #219

3. Dab on some black eyeshadow on top with the same brush so that it sets the kohl and it remains in tact all night long!!

4. Curl your lashes and apply some mascara!

For my lips, I used a gorgeous Coral Red lipstick by Oriflame from the Demi Moore Collection. It's long lasting so there's no need for touch ups!! :D

I also used some foundation before I started my makeup to even it out since my skin has been acting up lately!!

Hope this was helpful! :)

Have fun. party hard and make the most of 2013!!!

Makeup for a bright yellow dress!

Helloo lovelies! After I posted this pic yesterday, a lot of you'll had asked me about the blue on my eyes and the shade of my lipstick.. It's such an easy look which I have to share with you!

With a shade like yellow, it's better not to match your makeup with it since it will just get lost on your face! I suggest using contrasting, complementary colours that will make your yellow pop! The first thing that came to my mind was SUNSET! I used colors that would combine together to form a beautiful sunset. A blue/purple eye pencil instantly makes your eyes sparkle against the yellow. Now I can't go too bright on my lips since I've used a blue so I decided to go for a peachy-orangey-pinky lipstick.. Pls help me out guys, what color do you think my lipstick is ? I can't decide between peach and pink!

Eyes: First I used a Colorbar navy blue pencil called Electra 04 to line my eyes. I love this pencil because it's long lasting and they come in great shades! To really make the blue pop, it's important to apply a matching eyeshadow on top to set it. For this, I used an angular brush by M.A.C #208 ( any angular brush would work). Slightly dampen the brush and dab it on the blue eyeshadow (make sure the brush is not too wet). The eyeshadow I used is a limited edition MAC mineralize eyeshadow called Blue Sheen which delivers a rich indigo blue vibrant color. It immediately adds a pop to your eyes. This is my FAVOURITE eyeshadow and I use it with kanjusy/kanjoosy (however you spell that haha!) because it's limited edition, it's not available any more. All you beauties who have attended my workshops would have definitely seen this or used this, it's my star possession! :D On my lower waterline, I applied a black kajal by Inglot (forgot to put it into the pic). To complete the look, I applied one coat of the Lakme Eyeconic Mascara.

Lips : If you've been following my blog, you must know that I love to make my own cocktail when it comes to lipsticks.  I just mix and match a couple of shades! To add softness, I used a pale bubblegum pink lip pencil by Bourjois called Rose (number 15) and applied it all over my lips. After getting a pink base, I used an orangey peach lipstick by M.A.C called Vegas Volt. Vegas Volt is a gorgeous colour but on Indian skin tone, I prefer mixing it with a warm lip pencil for it to look good!

Hope you like the look :)

Mwah!
